rather than man made fossil fuels. i point to he will el nino in te pacific. could it be just nature? >> absolutely. natural factors are a major, major driver. but to ignore the factors of climate change, we do that at our peril. coastal residents in florida get. this people in new york city they are studying. this they have climate change. we need our first responders to be -- if we do not protect our coastal citizens and ignore climate change, that means we may have insufficient coastal adaptation strategies. when i see a storm coming. >> that sounds pretty reasonable no matter whether it's man made or cyclical as you say part of the natural cycle of the earth that you now have to have a defense system that's different imawtion people living in the coastal regions as i do are at a higher risk. you say? >> i have been saying for years that we were returning to the cycle of the 1950s. pacific, which by the way at record breaking cold levels, how about them apples. the pacific is cooling. the atlantic is warming. the atlantic warm cycle last another 10 to 15 years. what aggravates me
responsible for helping to get angus king ele elected. the race is on to line up political allies before negotiations start tuesday. the president met with the labor community today. he holds that first press conference since his re-election and will meet with congressional leaders at the end of the week, all of this because the one takeaway from the failed 2011 fiscal talks was the need to have an outside game. joining me now patti murray and a member of last year's super committee, the group that tried to reach a deal to avoid sequestrati sequestration. i apologize to come to you late wanting to get senator elect king's official announcement there that he's joining your caucus. >> that's great. >> i assume you would have been surprised if he had come to any other conclusion? >> well, i had a chance to talk with him last night. i think he's going to be a great member of our kau can cuss, a good, strong voice on issues that i care about deeply and we welcome him. >> let's talk about what you would like to hear from the president today when it comes to the fiscal cliff. i've talked to a l

overcame a four stroke deficit with a seven under par 65. mickelson, els, tied for second. and it wouldn't have been poulter if he didn't vet to get out of a long bunker shot, had about a ten foot put ats and it went right up to the edge of the hole. didn't stop, but just looked in and gently fell in with the perfect speed. amazing. now to football. sunday nature night nfl game, m important because it's nbc, atlanta falcons are 8-0 beating dallas 19-13. the matt ryan completed 24-34 passes and bryant kicked four field goals. atlanta is the only unbeaten team in the nfl. and another nfl game, we're talking about the panthers beat the redskins 21-13. there's a correlation between the outcome of the last washington, d.c. redskins football game prior to the presidential election and the drought come outcome of the election. miss torically when the redskins win, the incumbent wins. doesn't mean for sure, andrew. in 18 presidential contests, only once has this rule not held. that was in 2004 when president bush defeated john kerry despite a redskins loss. if history holds true, yesterday's red
in this battleground state, a million people either call themselves catholic or eveng el angelical. this is key especially when you're talking about a state like iowa, which folks here describe to me as split right down the middle or a purple state. in the heart of des moines, evangelical christians flock to grace church to talk faith, family and the presidential election. >> honestly, what it all boils down to is what does the bible say and which candidate is going to follow the closest? >> for bob and rachel bradshah, that candidate is mitt romney. >> i don't know how voters loik mine the president could be for abortion the way he is, and support same-sex marriage. it's hard for me to -- somebody that claims to be a christian, you know, make statements to support things like that. >> it can't be an easy choice to make either way. >> reporter: wrestling with their votes. >> my religious beliefs, if anything it's probably going to end up being mitt romney. >> 57% of voters in the republican iowa caucuses identify themselves as evangelicals, supported rick santorum over mitt romney, many uneasy
because obamas was re-ele re-elected to a second term? >> is he blaming president obama for that. the coal industry has been struggling for a while. it's an industry under a lot of pressure. now this ceo is blaming president obama because of increased regulation, which he says is the cause for sort of the troubles that the coal industry is going through. now what the ceo does say is that he has decided that these layoffs are necessary to prep for a potential slowdown in production over the next four years. and wall street, it had the same idea last week. we saw coal stocks sell off right after election day. now coal production hit a historical high in 2008. it tumbled a year later but stail stabilized. the reality is that it's kind of hard to blame obama for everything. utility companies have been ditching coal for natural gas, which is cheaper and cleaner and new rules go into effect in 2015 that will make coal production and coal-fired power plants even more expensive to run. those rules, by the way, carol, stem from the clean air act signed into law by richard nixon. carol? >> you don't

the fiscal cliff. here's a brief el strags of what we're talking about. the way things stand now an across the board spending cut is scheduled to hit every federal agency after december 31st. if congress does nothing before then, the cuts take effect no matter how badly the spending is needed. no matter how much it hurts, no matter who loses his or her job. at the same time everyone in the country gets hit with an across the board tax increase after the first of the year. you'll be paying more to the federal government no matter how much it hurts unless congress figures out how to stop it before december 31st. let's bring in our senior congressional correspondent dana bash. dana, this is big-time. this is a crucial issue that they have to resolve over the next, what, november and december. >> exactly. and the leader in the house and the leader in the senate wasted no time to come out and try to lay down markers. if you listen to the tone of both harry reid and house speaker john boehner each trying to sound as conciliatory and open to compromise as they can. watch what i'm talking about. >
